چکیده
Plant-derived molluscicides have been indicated as selective and low-cost strategies for the control of Biomphalaria glabrata (Say, 1818), an intermediate host schistosomes. This study aimed to evaluate aqueous ethanolic extracts leaves plants present in Cerrado such Caryocar brasiliense Camb., Ximenia americana L., Piptadenia viridiflora (Kunth) Benth., Schinopsis brasiliensis Engl. alternatives mollusk B. glabrata. For this, were collected from at Montes Claros-MG. Extracts concentrations 150, 100, 75, 50, 25 μg/mL, a positive containing niclosamide 3 negative dechlorinated water used verify molluscicidal activity. To toxicity non-target organisms, Artemia salina was treated with extract 10, 1000 μg/mL. The tested showed significant mortality within 24 h exposure. At above 75 P. viridiflora, C. brasiliense, S. achieved higher than 90%. Regarding extracts, 80% observed all 50 No against A. salina. Thus, high activity adult no

Schistosomiasis is a tropical disease caused by Schistosoma and occurs in 54 countries, mainly in South America, the Caribbean region, Africa and the eastern Mediterranean. Currently, 5 to 6 million Brazilian people are infected and 30,000 are under infection risk. Typical of poor regions, this disease is associated with the lack of basic sanitation and very frequently to the use of contaminate...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF THE MOLLUSCICIDAL POTENTIAL OF HYDROALCOHOLIC EXTRACTS OF Jatropha gossypiifolia Linnaeus, 1753 ON Biomphalaria glabrata (Say, 1818)
The action of extracts from the stem, leaves, and fruit of Jatropha gossypiifolia on Biomphalaria glabrata was studied by analyzing survival, feeding capacity and oviposition ability. The extracts were obtained by macerating the plant parts in 92% ethanol, which were then evaporated until a dry residue was obtained and phytochemically studied. The molluscicidal activity on B. glabrata was inves...
متن کاملLarvicidal Activity against Aedes aegypti and Molluscicidal Activity against Biomphalaria glabrata of Brazilian Marine Algae
This study investigated the biological activities of five benthic marine algae collected from Northeastern Region of Brazil. The tested activities included larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti, molluscicidal activity against Biomphalaria glabrata, and toxicity against Artemia salina. Extracts of Ulva lactuca (Chlorophyta), Padina gymnospora, Sargassum vulgare (Phaeophyta), Hypnea musciform...
متن کاملEvaluation of molluscicidal activity of three mangrove species (Avicennia schaueriana, Laguncularia racemosa and Rhizophora mangle) and their effects on the bioactivity of Biomphalaria glabrata Say, 1818
Schistosomiasis is a disease of global extent reaching populations in social vulnerability. One of the control measures of this parasitosis is the use of molluscicidal substances that can fight snails of the genus Biomphalaria, intermediate hosts of Schistosoma mansoni. The aim of this work was to study the toxic activity of three mangrove species (Avicennia schaueriana Stapf. & Leech, ex Molde...

Mutagens in the environment may represent a long-term risk for ecosystems. The reproductive potential of populations can be affected by alterations in the fecundity and offspring viability caused by germ cell mutations. Despite the ecological relevance of these effects, there are few studies on germ cell mutagenicity in natural populations. Biomphalaria glabrata was chosen for this study becaus...
